It can be hard to maintain perspective when trying to understand and respond to difficulties in our personal relationships, particularly with regard to romantic relationships and marriages. Conflict can become a part of daily life, and it can feel like there is no solution. Some of these issues will benefit greatly from couple’s counselling, but for many people, this journey begins with the individual developing an understanding of themselves and their own needs, what they want from their life and therefore what they need from their relationship.
With the support of counselling, a person can begin to work out how they feel and what they want as a person, separately and distinctly from their partner, and receive the empathy and support they need away from the complex dynamic of their relationship. I believe that for a relationship to improve, each participant within that relationship must be empowered as an individual.
