I have worked with many clients who are struggling with the effects of the abuse they experienced during childhood. These effects can manifest in unexpected ways, and the survivor of abuse can feel isolated and misunderstood, particularly as they may struggle to discuss their past with their close family and friends.
I understand the impact that abuse can have on later life, on feelings and behaviours, and on a person’s self-image and emotional life. Over the years I have come to understand how abuse experienced in childhood can affect family dynamics and relationships and how a person can find aspects of themselves ‘stuck’ at the point at which the abuse took place. Counselling can help a person to process and reflect upon these childhood experiences, understand their impact and support the inner child in order to achieve healing in adult life.
